Atlanta Mayoral Race....Never A Dull Moment
Sun. Nov. 29, 12:35am EST
The Atlanta Mayoral race has been riddled with drama since it began. Now that we are in the final stretch it's been one thing after another. Watching this campaign play out has been just like watching a tennis match with long rallies. Just last week Kasim Reed was accused of paying people to steal Mary Norwood's signs. And Mary herself is not blameless in all of this either.
Today I saw this in the AJC: http://bit.ly/5XacM6. The article reports that "both camps have stepped up their attacks on each other and are using the US mail." I find this ludicrous. Both candidates are in a sprint to the finish line and instead of engaging their constituents in the issues of concern to the city of Atlanta they are sending out direct mail pieces that attack each other.
Why aren't they engaging the online communities more actively? If you take a look at both of their twitter streams you will see a series of broadcasts on what Starbucks they are at or what pictures they have posted. They are missing an incredible opportunity to engage their constituents in a meaningful dialog. Do you really care what Starbucks either candidate is visiting? Or would you rather know how they will address the crime situation in Atlanta? Or any other issue for that matter. If neither can build community online do we really believe they should lead the Atlanta community?
