Even in the Shadow of Mt Redoubt is Volcano Monitoring Stimulus?
Right after President Obama addressed the nation, Louisiana Gov Bobby Jindal made the Republican rebuttal. During Gov Jindal’s speech he made national notoriety for commenting on volcano monitoring. To put the statement in context here is the full section from the transcript:

“But Democratic leaders in Congress — they rejected this approach. Instead of trusting us to make wise decisions with our own money, they passed the largest government spending bill in history, with a price tag of more than $1 trillion with interest. While some of the projects in the bill make sense, their legislation is larded with wasteful spending. It includes $300 million to buy new cars for the government, $8 billion for high-speed rail projects, such as a “magnetic levitation” line from Las Vegas to Disneyland, and $140 million for something called “volcano monitoring.” Instead of monitoring volcanoes, what Congress should be monitoring is the eruption of spending in Washington, D.C.”
Mt Redoubt, Alaska
While is seems obvious to me that the main reason for pointing out volcano monitoring was to use the catchy line about Congress’s “eruption of spending”, I still ask the question, what does volcano monitoring have to do with stimulus? Now before anyone thinks I don’t care about volcanoes, I live in Anchorage about 100 miles from Mt Redoubt where we have already had ash fall on the city. Believe me I think volcano monitoring is essential. I’m just still waiting for someone to explain how spending on volcano monitoring will stimulate our economy. Remember that’s what this bill was all about. That’s why the Democrats had to get the largest spending bill ever pushed through congress before anyone could read it (and maybe spot the inclusion of bonuses for Wall Street executives). Because we needed to stimulate the economy now! We were told these expenditures were essential to getting our economy back on it’s feet. Well, if we’re going to break the bank with spending, I think every expenditure should be able to explain itself on how it is essential for stimulating the economy.
Or was all of this just a big smoke screen to cover spending on all sorts of projects that might or might not survive the normal review of the people that we elected to act in the best interest of the nation.

Gov. Sarah Palin's waste of time
Fri. Mar. 27, 07:28pm EST
In these troubling times “drink” I would hope that the Governor of Alaska would be spending her time working with the legislator on the various requirements involved in accepting parts of the Stimulus Bill. Instead it looks like she’ll be defending herself from another law suit. Linda Kellen Biegel, a Democrat who blogs under the name “Celtic Diva.” has decided that the Governor is in violation of state ethics for wearing a jacket that had Arctic Cat logos on it during the Tesoro Iron Dog snowmobile race.
Gov Sarah Paline at the Iron Dog
It is true that Arctic Cat is a sponsor of her husband Todd in his racing from Big Lake, Wasilla to Nome in Alaska. But there is no evidence that the Governor had any sort of agreement with Arctic Cat to wear the Jacket. It’s much more likely that Gov Palin simply got up that morning and decided “hey it’s cold outside in the snow, maybe I should wear that nice warm jacket”, or something like that.
But now the States immediate interest will have to be muddled up with the Governor having to spend time def fending herself from another worthless law suit.

WE WON!! The Global War on Terror is Over!
Fri. Mar. 27, 05:35pm EST
The Obama administration has announced that the Global War on Terror is over. That's fantastic news. I'm glad to know that we finally won the war. I mean why else would the war be over except that we have won? We will still have the Overseas Contingency Operation. I'm not real sure what that is, but a contingency operation can't be as bad as a war. It's nice to know that there is finally peace in the Middle East.
Of course this is all just smoke and mirrors from the Obama administration. And I can't help but wonder how many meetings and how many man hours where spent to come up with the new phrase to make everyone "feel" better. The saddest part may be that it actually makes some people feel better. Where have we come as a nation that these sorts of empty platitudes are what we get from our elected officials?
Let's all remember that the war is not over. Our military is still in the line of fire fighting to help other be able to enjoy the same sorts of freedoms that we enjoy every day. And I hope that everyone will remind your Congressmen of just that.

House Decides Against Fast-Tracking Obama's 'Cap and Trade' Bill
Tue. Mar. 24, 05:57pm EST
A small light has been lit in the dark of the House of Representatives. According to FoxNews.com's Chad Pergram the House has decided not to use the Fast Tracking rules for Obama's Cap and Trade bill. This means the bill will be subject to the normal review process and possible filibuster rules in the Senate.
This goes with something I know I've heard, we may not be able to stop Obama, but there are some things we can do to slow him down.
