From Conspiracy to Extremism
Tue. Apr. 14, 06:35pm EST
In 1998, Hillary Clinton said that a "Vast right-wing conspiracy" was out to get her husband. This was during the midst of the Lewinsky scandal. Here's a quick clip of it.
We conservatives proudly took that smear as a fun label. I even got the coffee mug from my subscription to the Limbaugh Letter that proclaimed me a Proud Member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy (just as a side note, it was stolen off my desk at work. My dad contacted the Rush Limbaugh show and told them, and they sent me a replacement one for free! Who says the man is evil?!).
Fast forward 11 years. Conservatives are no longer just part of a conspiracy to smear a president! Now, the Department of Homeland Security has labeled us EXTREMISTS!
In a document from DHS, this is stated:
Okay, so because I am someone that believes in limited government... and because I am OPPOSED to abortion... I am an extremist. "Dedicated to a single issue" makes me an extremist? But only if it goes against the wishes of the current regime in Washington? So, because I'm pro-life, I'm an extremist. If I were rabidly pro-abortion, I'd be a patriot? NARAL members are patriots. National Right to Life members are extemists. Because I'm pro-gun, I'm an extemist. But if I were a gun control advocate, I'd be a patriot? Brady Campain good. NRA bad.
What in the world?!?! And this is right on the heels of the Missouri Information Analysis Center report warning that militias may be on the rise and you can profile those members by looking for the following: Ron Paul bumper stickers, Bob Barr bumper stickers, or "Right to Carry" handgun stickers. Oh, and Christians, "sovereign citizens", those opposed to abortion, tax revisionists, and anti-illegal immigrant advocates are potential would-be terrorists. The State of Missouri has since backpedaled on this, but still... it shows the thinking that is out there right now.
Basically, what the current powers that be are trying to ingrain in the minds of the great unwashed is that Conservative = Extremist. All those Tea Party attendees (I'm hoping to go tomorrow)... well, they are Extremist. I could go on an on about this, but I think I'm making my point here.
Persecution, well, it's not far behind.
UPDATE: Read Michelle Malkins take on this on her blog. She quotes even more about the document.

* (U) Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.
