Kudos to Tanner

I am no fan of John Tanner, but kudos to him for doing the right thing yesterday.

While initially toying with the other side - yesterday morning he was reportedly “undecided“, and in the test vote yesterday he voted “yes” - he ended up voting “No” to the Cap & Trade energy tax bill yesterday, as his office told me he would.

Here’s what he had to say about the bill:

“We share the concerns of many in West and Middle Tennessee about the negative impact this legislation, as passed by the House, could have on families, small businesses and farmers in the 8th District, many of whom already face tough times because of today’s unprecedented economic challenges.

“We realize action is needed to address our country’s energy needs, lessen our dependence on foreign sources of energy, and ensure good stewardship of our environment. This legislation, however, is not the best approach and does not come at the right time. Many of us are hopeful the Senate will produce legislation that addresses these goals without the negative impact the House-passed bill could have on the 8th District.”

Our phone calls worked. Thanks for speaking out!

Now on to the Senate…

no our calls probably had nothing to do with it.. he learned it would pass anyway and since he had ignored us on every other vote this year decided to throw us a bone when it didn't matter in the totals.

You may be right - still, I know of 8 Republicans I like even less than Tanner right now...
