"You voted for Obama didn’t you?..."

Thu. Nov. 06, 11:45pm EST

This afternoon my 8 year-old daughter, on the way home from school, asked my wife, “You and daddy voted for Obama didn’t you?”  My wife replied “Yes we did.”  “But why?” she asked, “You know he is going to do some bad things.”  “What bad things?” my wife asked.  “Like making us go to school on Saturdays and Sundays” she replied, “that’s what my friends at school told me.”

It seems there is no end to the negative rumors about the horrible destruction that will ensue when Obama becomes president.    I feel for the disappointment and grief that Republicans are experiencing now.  I have endured the same experiences several times in the past 8 years.   Some became very bitter, expressing hate toward the current president and waxed eloquently on how the Bush Presidency has ruined the entire world.  They even earned their own term and acronym.  Some fought against the winning party, some fought alongside, and some just bided their time, until their time would come.   Though I have disagreed with many of the decisions made in the past years, and I know there are many repercussions of those decisions that will remain, the time is almost over, the earth is still revolving and the USA, though somewhat more crippled militarily and financially from 8 years ago, is still here.

And I have learned a lesson.  The person who is in charge of the only Kingdom that matters is never up for re-election.  It is not so important who sits in the great White House, as who sits on the great White Throne.   To my “didn’t vote for Obama” friends, I feel your pain.  I truly hope your fears will be not be realized and that the hopes of the “voted for Obama” folks will be good for all, not just some.  I also hope my 8 year-old will not have to attend school on Saturday and Sunday.

Love it David - and tell your wife that I'm sorry for feeding those lies to your daughter about school, I just couldn't help myself :)

I can picture how 8-year-olds would have a conversation like the one your daughter must have had--kids repeating as best they understand and remember some concepts or facts that they can't really understand yet. Sadly, that conversation was probably more logical and rational than many many conversations that adults have that spread "negative rumors" about Obama, Bush, any given politician.
