DAY 95 (270 M&Ms)

Welcome to my diary as a soldier deployed in the Global War on Terror.

Another milestone. January has slipped away and the shortest month of the year is ahead. That’s three months complete. Our mission keeps us busy for long days and long weeks. When the schedule is like that, the months melt away. We even have some guys getting ready for their R&R trip home. That’s a sure sign that the days are passing by. April is half way, and that seems in reach.

The other day, I posted about differing National Compounds here at KAF. I’ve learned, anecdotally of course, that the gymnasiums or fitness centers are the same way. The NATO gym is clean, fresh, newly equipped, and built for body sculpting and cardio. The US gym, aka “prison gym”, is built for pure steroid enhancement. It is not for those seeking toning machines and jazzercise. The” prison gym” has a few machines. All the cables and pulleys are broke. If you go in there, you need to be serious about getting stronger and better at killing people and breaking things. The US gym can be very hot, loud with banging iron, and obviously intimidating. If the Taliban walked in, they’d surrender on the spot. That’s why I don’t go.

Thanks for the support and prayers for everyone serving here,

Bo

A real special thanks to the EAST VALLEY MILITARY SUPPORT GROUP of Chandler, Arizona and Miss Faith Steele. They have found me and in so doing are taking care of half of the troops in Afghanistan. They have shipped about 60 boxes of home the past few days. That’s great to see a community and volunteers get together to serve soldiers. Apparently, they belong to a national network because I’m getting mail from all over the country. It’s a blessing to see so many “hugs in a box”.

Come on Bo, you don't want to be all big, bulky and manly when you need to paint those rocks at the EUA entrance gate.

I think the last time either of us pumped iron was when we dropped Tim and Dink off at the Auburn Rec center. Pumping aluminum on the other hand, was a skill we had mastered. There was a chain in Tamarack that displayed our prowess to the world.
