Not to diminish Coach Bowden's achievements... but THIS Is what is wrong with our country in my opinion. We utilize the highest governing body of this country to give kudos to people who already have plenty of recognition, while ignoring the thousands of unsung heros that quietly spend their time doing no less great things than coaching a football team. This also to me shows how out of touch our legislators really are, that they think we desire them to spend their time on such matters or that the majority of the American people even CARE or could identify Bobby Bowden.

What collectively does this say about us? Entertainers and sports legends receive the bulk of the applause both from the general public and from our elected officials. And for what? Ooooh, you sing pretty. You can pretend to be someone else like none other. Dude, you sure can run fast and throw a ball well. I'm not discounting the overall benefits of the arts or of sports, but when these people become "role models" and "heros" for our children, I think something is very very wrong.
