My name is Bradley Byrne and I am a proven, conservative reformer who hopes to earn your vote for Governor in 2010. I am running for Governor because I believe it is critical that Alabama move forward in its quest for educational excellence, ethics reform and robust economic development.
I was born and raised in Mobile, just a few miles from where my great-great-great grandfather settled in the 1780s after coming to America from Ireland. The Byrne’s have been a proud and consistent part of the Mobile-area community ever since.
After earning my law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law, I practiced law in Mobile for over 25 years. In 1994, I entered the public arena with my election to the Alabama State Board of Education. I was honored with re-election in 1998. In 2002 and in 2006, I was proud to win the votes and the trust of my fellow Alabamians from Senate District 32, who affirmed my reform-focused agenda and elected me to serve in the Alabama Senate. In May 2007, I was appointed Chancellor of the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education, which at the time, was riddled with problems and plagued by corruption. Working with a tireless and dedicated team, we brought positive reform, re-focused goals and renewed public trust to Alabama’s Community College System.
I’ve been married to the former Rebecca Dukes of Montgomery for 28 years. Rebecca is executive director of the United Way of Baldwin County. We are the proud parents of four children.
